Re: GTA IV - Biggest fail in gaming history
ati just fails altogether, most nvidia cards will work, to bad my computer to slow, and running to slow, as i have a cput temp of 82degrees, minimum, when i am gaming, and my room is very cold for this to happen
once my comp has better parts and the issues have been sold, then i am getting gta IV, it the best game out

Re: GTA IV - Biggest fail in gaming history
I said in my previous post I got it running but that was somehow only one time where it worked. Then it always crashed again although I didn't change anything.
Finally I found a thread where someone provides a solution for ATi users and that worked for me.
It's in german though.
You need NET.framework 3.5 SP1, the 8.12 catalyst beta driver.
In CCC under advanced mode, set mipmap detail level to Quality and catalyst A.I to Advanced.
After rebooting, open Prime95 and run the Small FFTs test.
Start GTA IV. Once you're in the menu, go to desktop and exit Prime95.
This sounds ridiculous but this Prime95 trick actually works. GTA IV starts when the CPU is under 100% load.
For anyone who is able to speak german and has problems with his ATi card:
http://www.computerbase.de/forum/showth ... p?t=509874
Now what I can say about the game is that it's really fun, the graphics are good on middle settings. Using the method above I also fixed the flickering shadows. But it sucks that you can't turn AA or AF on.

You should be able to force AA/AF and lots of other graphic improving stuff via nhancer for example.Crystal wrote:But it sucks that you can't turn AA or AF on.

Re: GTA IV - Biggest fail in gaming history
Nope, no third-party programs can't change that. I've read that on some german sites, can't find an english one atm.
But take a look at this:
Good job! Most ATi card owners can't even run the game and nVidia cards get a boost
Of course, can't blame Rockstar for that since it's not their work but still a bit weird..
But take a look at this:
http://www.gta4.tv/article/790273/nvidi ... or-gta-iv/NVIDIA releases drivers optimized for GTA IV
The folks at NVIDIA have released a new beta-driver package, Forceware 180.84, specifically optimized for use in Grand Theft Auto 4 on PC.
Improvement in frames per second varies from just a few to over 10. More than enough to give these drivers a try if you feel GTA4's performance is letting you down.
Head on over to http://www.nzone.com and grab your driver package. Be sure to share your results in our forums!

Nah, ATI have pwned nvidia in perfomance+price for pretty long time now.SEAN-NZ wrote:nvidia just better overall imho
4870X2 pwns GTX280 for example.
But the new GTX260 with 216 shaders is a good competitor for 4870.
GTX260 is maybe a tiny little bit better than 4870 atm, but it costs a bit more, especially after the price cuts on the 4870.
And after driver 8.12 i think 4870 will perform a bit better than GTX260 216 again.

Re: GTA IV - Biggest fail in gaming history
it runs pretty well on my box, E8500@3,5 ghz with a 8800GT 512 MB version. Though, the textures disappear once in a while and the install really was a pain. Other than that, I'm enjoying this game quite a bit, the ragdoll effect is too nice.

Re: GTA IV - Biggest fail in gaming history
It never ceases to amaze me how 360-PC ports need larger and larger and larger specs of PCs, yet the 360 is still the same spec...
GTAIV works nice with a controller and a big TV.
Its only good on the PC for hacking it to shreads..
The more complicated hardware and games come to run on the PC - not to even mention DRM issues, I'd rather stick with the good ol' 360 thanks! Least I know when I get a game, my hardware is fine and I don't need to speed £200 to get my 'cheaper by a tenner' game to work!
For the price of upgrading your PC all the time to run newer games, you could buy another 360, and another TV, and do some crazy dual screen stuff PGR4 supports binding 360s together to make multiple screens
This is one of the primary reasons why gaming on the PC has declined so much.
I realise there will always be the niche market - Fligh Sims, Driving Games (cos console wheels & pedals on your sofa really doesn't work, you need a desk!), Solitaire, etc.. (lol)
And yes, I play LFS on my nicely spec'd PC and it runs brilliantly. But my PC is nicely spec'd because I also run OS X, and its a Hackintosh Which I need for work, so suits me good.
GTA: San Andreas was a crasher on the PC too.
In fact, GTA1, and GTA 1969, they used to run fine, but the networking used to go out of sync, so multiplier sucked.
GTA2 used to just crash randomly. Networking still wasn't right.
They don't really work that well on the PC, do they!!
Yes, perhaps they should've got it right by now - but it must be an absolute nightmare to program for. A million different hardware variations, ATi vs nVidia, XP vs. Vista, 32bit vs 64bit.... Let alone some people on older DirectX revisions, lots of background tasks, cheap hardware which doesn't perform to spec... Poor chaps!
Oh, hi, BTW. Yup, tis meee!

Re: GTA IV - Biggest fail in gaming history
And to me it still amazes me that i get 'Saving game, please dont turn off the system' in a PC game.AndiTails wrote:It never ceases to amaze me how 360-PC ports need larger and larger and larger specs of PCs, yet the 360 is still the same spec...
But reayll, andi, you are as big fail... Not vaild comparison since 1: they adapted the game to 360 first 2: they have made loads of changes (like view distance is greatly increased) 3: its a porting ffs.
Its like saying 'it amazes me how slow the a formula car is compared to a seat 600' while not saying that the race was done on ice and the seat had winter tyres. 360, the seat and a formula 1 car is only good in its own adapted situation (and comparing it with poo makes you fail) while the PC however is made to be able to make different variable kind of things. Thats why you can decide what brand of gfx card, processor, hard drive, etc u can get to your pc. But ofc it has to be somewhat adapted too - but the 360 and the formula one cars i very end edge-specifics.
A company that delivers a game towards a known market (pc) and fails.. are themselfs fail. Its not like the conditions has changed a lot before they started to make.. err, port, the game. Yes, this is one of the biggest fail in history, which will affect their brand negative
