DDS Converter
Hey guys,
The traditional "DDS Converter" program doesn't work on vista 64bit
I am in need of a way to convert DDS files to and from other file formats (BMP, JPG etc) via a 3rd party program (No PS plugins etc)
Any ideas?

Re: DDS Converter
PAINT.NET (paint dot net) uses dds as one of it's standard file formats. All compression levels - DX1 DX3 DX5 etc etc. It's completely free software and a bit like photoshop in it's functionality.
You might have to run it in 32 bit emulation mode? Is that right? idk ... google the info.
If I am desparate I uses IrfanView (great media viewer) with it's plugins (incl. dds plugin and dds thumbnail viewer). It allows you to view dds files and save them to JPG etc format. (But not the other way)

Re: DDS Converter
I will need to be able to convert both ways, I was tempted by paint.net before posting this but would prefer a small 3rd party program if possible.
Does paint.net have a batch convert?

Re: DDS Converter
I don't use PS anyway, I use a much less complex program called "PhotoFiltre Studio" which sadly has no DDS plugins suitable for the job

Re: DDS Converter
Well, for .dds files I use Paint.NET and the normal download runs fine on Vista 64bit.
Of course you can convert both ways. You dont need anything else than Paint.NET.

Re: DDS Converter
i use the Gimp 2.6 for editing DDS. You can get the plugin for it on their website. Free and works just as good as PS

Re: DDS Converter
Sorry, late reply. There doesn't seem to be a batch convert function in PAINT.NET
Someone is working on one in the PAINT.NETforums I think, but he hasn't relaesed it yet.
BTW: Installed, PAINT.NET is only 9 MB

Note: I did really only start this thread to see if I could get a DDS converter and I have a feeling it's going to turn into a "Gimp iz bettar than fotoshop LOLOL FAP FAPFAP" thread. Please don't allow this.
