Yeah, so my main PC officially died today.
It started packing up 2 days ago and I could get it back going by taking out parts and put them back in again.
Now it really won't boot. For those who remember older PCs (meaning: seeing CPU type, speed, memory etc.), when a PC starts it goes through a so-called POST (Power On Self Test). One of the things it does is check your memory. Well, mine starts at 1024KB, stops and does absolutely nothing. I know a thing or two about computers so if I have time I'll try different memory. If that doesn't help the motherboard will probably have fried.
In a few days my new PC parts (which I ordered a while ago - see Computers/Hardware subforum) should arrive and I'll start on building that. In the mean time though, I won't be able to cruise on the server.
Don't miss me too much!

Re: Chris P temporarily off server
Might not help, but some things to try:
Does DELETE key work to get to the BIOS screen? Check keyboard is plugged in, if using a USB keyboard, try a PS/2 type keyboard if you got one spare.
Remove the graphics card. Use the on-board graphics (if you have it) to see if it will boot. A broken graphics card may cause the same thing because the boot up checks if the GPU is working. Also graphics card may not be correctly seated.
Try just using one memory slot, if one slot is dead then any memory in it might cause the failure. Get all dust out of memory slots and make sure memory card contacts aren't dirty. Sometimes just pulling the memory in and out a few times is enough to clean the contacts and push away any dirt build up.
