Ok so i just downloaded windows 7 ultimate, but im having problems on the initial boot. All the install went ok, but when I initiated first startup, it stops before windows can even start. It stops on a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner. I left it for over half an hour but still nothing happened. I'm desperate! Any help please???

But doesn't Windows 7 format the destination partition for you before it installs? WinXP did this.

Anyway... if you don't have data on the secondary/extended partition you should remove all partitions using the Win7 CD/installer

and re-create & reformat them all again. Once I installed Linux on an old HDD and it sort of confused the boot sectors and Windows wouldn't install properly on it until I removed all partitions and started again.

Have a look around and see if your hardware (mobo) is having compatibilty issues with Win7
