Re: Lottery Gambling
Well, from my recollection of programmatic random numbers, the odds aren't really "odds". The random stream is a number that goes up from the minimum number to the maximum number very very quickly. So if for example it was said that you have a 1 in 20 chance of getting the jackpot, that would technically be untrue. It all depends on when you enter the lotto
But of course, the numbers move WAAY to quick to be able to say exactly when you will hit a jackpot. So you can't time it from where the last person cashed a ticket, to when the jackpot will be reached.
I also "think" I know how the jackpot is hit. I'm not going to post it here, as it's quite clever. I made a way to do it when I made my cruise insim. Although CLC may well have a different way than me

Re: Lottery Gambling
Praying always helps. The time you spend slowing down to type a *PLEASE PLEASE* might affect the time you enter the lotto. I remember when people used to think it was based on the lap timer seconds, they would try to stop on exactly 59secs. Also I remember when people used to think it was based on what location in the lotto bay you parked. Its's not actually that complex. There is no way to predict it, its like the roll of a dice. Just a note, about 180 tickets per day are bought, so it's providing some sort of outlet for our gambling needs.
It should be noted that I believe it was shaken-bake's idea originally to offer tickets for sale at the shop. So well done mate.

I bought 32 tickets yesterday, and made 6k. If you keep at it, you're bound to get at least one jackpot, which means profit. You can't lose more than €200 per ticket (I think the minimum is €200 for a win, I've never got lower ), and the minimum for a jackpot win (again, I think) is €2500. If you get a jackpot with in the first 15 tickets, which is entirely probable, even if the gods hate you and you get minimum on everything, you still break even.
I think, from what I've been seeing, average for normal lotto is about €300, and average for jackpot is around €3000 (Again, estimations, I've never gotten the maximum and minimum amounts). So, going on that philosophy, you can do 30 tickets, and the chances are very high that you'll get a jackpot, and you'll break even, even if you get the jackpot on the 30th ticket. But the chances are you'll get the ticket before then, so you will generally make a profit...
At the end of the day, it's fun I spent basically all of last night cruising between the shop and lotto depot, gambling

Re: Lottery Gambling
Well the way Dougie has expressed it, it looks like you buy about 30 tickets and you will be ahead 6,000. That's not the case all the time. If you get bad luck Dougie said you will break even, BUT you could actually get out of pocket up to 6000 after that many tickets. You need a much bigger sample to get effective predictions. For example, try 30 tickets today, then 30 tickets tomorrow, your results will be different. Even have two people doing 30 tickets each together, the results will be different..
Changing the formula will just upset the cashflow in/out of the ticket booth and the economy OR ELSE it would require changing ticket prices as well, which might be a nasty shock when someone goes to buy a ticket and the price is changed.
Just for an example for explaination purposes: You find may out magically that on average everone makes 500 profit on 20 tickets, as Dougie is trying to do here. But in that test sample you used some guys have won two lottos and are 8,000 ahead, others have no jackpots and are -6000 in debt. Yes you can find averages and find whats most likely, but that will never give you an exact idea of what you will win, only give you the risk factor. People know that REAL casinos are high risk, (always in house's favour) yet they still gamble. If he figures out the EXACT risk, then its not going to change the fact that a coulple of people get good luck and are ahead and some are not at all and loose cash.
I'm not going to mess about with the formula for a while. I mean, I could, but I wouldn't be noticed because its random everytime, so you have to watch it for hours on end to see any pattern. Sometimes I hear peolpe comment, "hey, tonight lotto is paying out a lot". Even though nothing has changed.
I intend to use a cumulative jackpots as has been suggested earlier when I do updates to the lottery, which will bait more people to play as the jackpot climbs. I just don't wanna messa about with the cash balance at this time. Dougie still will never be able to tell you what you stand to get, but he's allowed to estimate of course.

Re: Lottery Gambling
Well, even with dice, as an example, no-one can predict what you will get. Sure, it's easy to work out the probability of the possible outcomes, but that doesn't mean in 6 turns you will get a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and a 6. What I did was see the minimum and maximum prizes (from my experience), and then get the average. But there may well be something that lowers the average without affecting minimum and maximum, idk...
But the way I see it, you can't lose more than €200 per ticket, right (€400 cost - €200 minimum payout)? And after a certain amount of tickets, maybe 30, maybe more, you have a very good chance of getting a jackpot. If it's a half-decent jackpot, and you haven't been getting minimum payout every other time, then generally you will break even or make some kind of profit. Of course there are those who, as you say, have no luck, and won't be lucky enough to get a good jackpot. But then there are those with good luck, who counter-balance the equation. That's the way I see it anyway...
And I will make a good attempt at telling you should earn anyway...even though I'm probably wrong
